05/12/04

Hello there! Just a few practices left before we step on stage at the Bluebird. Jason gets here in on Friday, and it's 25 hours of str8 practice and we are all really excited as usual.  Things are going great, and we are putting the final touches on our set list for the US and Japan.  I have to get SV-1 ready for this weekend, it needs a little love, oil and air in the front passenger tire.  I'm also going to glue the passenger window shut, so Jeff feels at home, like when he was in the band.  If we are luck, Jeff will cause more people to puke by turning up his bass very loud then he himself will in the Japanese summer heat.  For those of you who didn't go the Jealous Sound show last weekend at the Larimer Lounge, man, you missed out.  Not only did you miss the fabulous Downs, but also a band in a three way tie for my favorite. (the JS, Nada Surf, Gamits.)  OK, gotta run.  We'll talk soon.  See you SAT MAY 15ht at the BLUEBIRD!!!!

04/28/04

OK, it's been too long.  But what did you come to expect from us?  Here is the shakedown.  We've all been doing different stuff since we last went to Japan and Tulagi's closed down the day we were supposed to play our show in town.  What a bummer.  So Scott has been putting some music together for a while (He's always doing another project) and they recorded a killer record and are called the Absinthe Glow.  Wynona Records in Italy are going to release it and you need to check it out. (it's very different than the Fairlanes)  Scott sings and plays guitar, his brother Bill plays bass, and they had some other help as well.  www.absintheglow.com   Anyhow, they planned a tour for Italy and some other shows in Europe and Scott recruited a band.  Jason and Andy were going to go and help out and have fun.  Then we got word that Japan was asking us to come out again, and some of the dates overlapped.  We didn't want to ruin Scott's tour but we also wanted the Fairlanes to play in Japan.  So we all decided that the best thing to do was to try to get some temporary members for this tour so that Jason and I could take the band to Japan, and Scott and Andy could do the AG tour as well.  Not an easy task, but that is the way of the Fairlanes.  Anyway, we were all in Vegas at a bachelor party and in a drunken haze, hashed it all out (I think I was passed out at the time) and talked to Merkel (our old bass player) and decided to go for it.  We called up Forrest and he was down as well.  Forrest was the Gamits drummer for a long time, and went with the Gamits to Japan the first time they went.  As a side note, Scott played bass on that Gamits tour, and Jason was the "roadie" who basically bummed around and occasionally would do a cowboy dance to the delight of thousands of Japanese fans.  So it's crazy how things work out, but making things as difficult as possible has been the hallmark of this band.  It wouldn't be right if it was easy.  So right now, I'm practicing a ton (yes, you read that correctly, practicing, as in playing the songs over and over) with Forrest and Jeff while Jason is relaxing, tanning and watching movies in Santa Monica, California.  He's definitely keeping it real.  Since we are flying all the way to Japan with 50% new members, we decided that we might want to practice together at least once before we leave.  So Jason is flying out to Colorado for a few days of practice and we thought, what the hell, lets play a show and see if anyone comes out.  Perhaps there are a few people around that haven't forgotten about us here in our old home state.  So come on down the the Bluebird on May 15th and check out our new lineup and have some fun with us.  We are getting older, but at least we still feel funny.  Funny as in some things kind of wrong, but it doesn't hurt too bad.  See ya!

Oh yeah, I'm not sure who the hell would still be reading this, but if you are, then you are somewhat likely to have lots of extra time on your hands.  I need some work done on my car and my basement.  Just kidding.  Well, not really, but shoot us an email if you want.  info@thefairlanes.com or robbie@thefairlanes.com

We love you all.  Well not really, but we do as far as you know.

Oh, and for those of you who are really bored, we were recently interviewed, here are some excripts:

Hey Z, what have you been doing?  "Well Spin magazine, I've been watching alot of movies and watching my cat Jetta get really fucking huge.  I've been playing around with some new music, but I mostly wind up spacing out.  I havn't been playing in a band either.  There is something else.  Oh yeah, I'm going to get married sometime soon, but not in the US.  Some place that they don't speak English a whole lot.  Ask Christie."

And how about you Robbie?  "Man this interview is early.  Do people really get up before 2pm?  And by the way, I think you really smell like fish.  Oh wait, maybe that isn't you.  I've been trying to figure out how to use all the money in my homeowner's association reserve fund for my personal expenses.  Also, I'm studying some music.  I just got to all this garbage about minor chords.  I'm not buying it..."

What up? Well, it has been awhile as usual. So here is what is going on….. we had band practice today in Denver to get ready for our Japanese tour. We are sounding good. Tomorrow at 3:30AM, we have to leave for Chris Gamit's house as we area all going to the airport together. We then fly to Chicago, and then to Tokyo. We have 2 shows there and plan on having a great time. Then we return next Friday to get ready for our show in Boulder at Tulagi. It has been over a year since we have played in Colorado and we are really, really excited to be back. We hope to see you there - The Fairlanes

Hey there, wow, it's been a while. So many things have happened since I last wrote an update... Obviously, we have finished the recording. We are now back from the Spring Fever Tour in which was a fiasco in itself. As you know, we didn't go on tour with Allister. It's too bad because we were looking forward to this tour, especially since they started the idea by asking us! We got a call from them about 2 weeks before the tour was to start and told us they were going to cancel. Aside from a few promoters, all of the shows were still on, so we decided to go anyway - we already had plane tix, and we wouldn't have been able to book another tour on such short notice anyway. So then came about 12,000 miles and 28 shows. We played the longest string of shows yet, 7 in a row, and it would have been 9, except our "luck" on the way back to Colorado always seems to cancel our last couple shows. But, on the bright side, we saw Mike Park at the Asian Man compound, and picked up our new release while in California. We got to play a few shows with our friends the Lawrence Arms, which is always nice, the Disappointments, and the Rummies. We also played with Taking Back Sunday, Valve, and Bayside. All great bands, and very nice guys. We saw Bike Week in Myrtle Beach, SC, saw Star Wars on opening day in NJ, after enjoying Rob's favorite sandwich shop, ate at Longhorn Burger, cruised the strip in our RV and flashed our bling-bling in South Beach Miami, survived a case of an awful flu, stopped at every person's house we could and ate their food, and came VERY close to emptying our shitter on a venue. Thanks to all who came out and said hi, and helped us out on tour. It means so much! So yeah, it's almost 4 am, and I'm gonna hit the sack, and write more soon. Hope to see you at the release shows - we are going to play a wide variety of songs, some that we haven't played in a while. So that should be fun. See you soon, and please, check out the new record!

2/12/02

Hello again! We just returned from yet another tour and are in the studio, recording for our upcoming asian man release. Drums and most of the guitars are done already, and we are extremely excited about the tunes! Before I go on, we want to thank everyone who came out to see us this tour and said hi. It was great to hang out and meet new friends. Coming in first place for "the best suprise show on tour" was San Angelo, TX, where we had fun with over 100 kids on a Tues. night. We haven't been there since the first tour with Scott, and that was in '96. Also, our guestbook is all jacked up, but it will be fixed soon, so please write, we missed hearing from you all this tour! Back to the recording, things are going well, and we are planning to be done by Thursday of Friday. We are excited to play the Bluebird again, this Wed night, with Ann Berreta and Student Rick. I think we'll play a few of the new ones. After the show, we'll finish the recording, and head to Copper Mtn Ski resort to see our friends Mike and Kelly get married. (You all know Mike "the bass" from PGD and the JJ's. He's also filled in for us on the bass a few times, and was in the Fantastics.) In other news, we are going to start routing the tour with Allister! We will be hitting the road sometime mid-late April. That gives us 2 months to recover from this tour and recording. We will have our Asian Man release with us on that tour, but it won't be in stores yet. At least that's the word on the street. Also very exciting for us is that we will be on 4 regional shows of the Warped Tour this summer, as will the Gamits. Unfortunately, they won't all be the same places, but we'll play in Montana, Utah, Colorado, and Nebraska. We'll give you more info as we get it. Oh yeah, Andy is growing out the cherry quite nicely, and should be quite impressive by the Allister tour!! OK, its almost 2 am now, so I'm taking off, we'll write again when we are done recording! Take it easy.

Hi friend - We are leaving for out Winter US tour today. Thisngs have been pretty hectic around here lately and we are ready to hit the road. The show dates are posted on the shows page. Right after we return, well be recording an EP for ASIAN MAN RECORDS!!! It looks like it will come out in April or so. The tunes are coming along great so far I think. Our online merchandise deal seems to be going really smoothly. If you have not checked it out, it is amazing. Anyway, Come see us on tour! Later Days

Hi everybody - So we are all recovering from the 2+
month Fairlanes/Gamits tour. All in all it was a good
tour. The second leg turned out to be much better than
the first. Regardless of the shows, both bands got
along really well and had a great time. Thanks to
everyone who came out to see our shows. We really
appreciate your support. Also thanks to the Gamits for
being such swell dudes and making the tour so much
fun. The last show of tour in Boulder with All, the
Gamits and Toys that Kill was the best show we have
done in a while and also the perfect way to end the
tour on a great note. So what's up for us in the
future right now you ask? Alot. Here we go....
As far as tours go, we have one planned for
January/February that is looking good so far. It will
be a tour of the west coast and the south (as far east
as Texas). We will be posting dates for that as soon
as we know them. After that, we are going to be doing
a tour with Drive Thru Records act, Allister, from
Chicago. I'm not sure of the details on that yet, as
it is all in the works, but Ill let you know when we
do. If I had to guess, I would say that will be
happening in late March.
As for new recordings, we will be headed into the
studio in Jan/Feb to record an EP for Asian Man
Records! We will most likely record at least 5 songs,
of which 5 will be on the EP. We have a slew of new
materiel of which some was recorded (in demo version)
while we were driving in the RV. The tunes are looking
to be cool. This EP is hoped to come out around April.

For our CO Show in January, we will be having a very
different set than we have the past few shows. We will
be playing some brand new songs and some very old
songs that we have not played in years. It should be a
good time.
In personal people news, Scott is now out in San
Francisco, Jason is back in Long Beach, Robbie is in
Lafayette and Andrew is in Denver looking for a place
to live. As I mentioned before, we like to make these
things as complicated as we possibly can. We are all
just working on new materiel and trying to make ends
meet for the holidays coming up. I hope you are all
doing well and have bitchin' holidays. Later Days.

Yello. Well, we got back alright from the first half of the US tour with the Gamits. We had a good time and all got along really good, however, the shows were not the best. There were some good ones, but we were hoping for a few more mega radical ones. Thats OK though. Some that were cool were in Pennsylvania, where our friends the Overdrives played their last shows. We're hoping that the next leg rocks. Anyway, we leave again in a week.

So, in unrelated news to any of this, my girlfriend Anna (I'm Scott, by the way) got a job at Amnesty International in San Francisco. I am really excited for her. This Sunday I will be going out there with her and helping her find a place to live and move her in. Immediately following the next leg of the tour I will be joining her out there. It is sad for me to leave Colorado, as all my best friends live here, so many great memories are here and I have been here for the last 6 years of my life, but at the same time, I am excited to try something new and move on. So after the tour we will have Jason in Long Beach, me in San Francisco and Andrew and Robbie in Denver. See, we like to make things as complicated as we possibly can.

In other news, tomorrow night (10/6/01) , Andy will be playing a "reunion show" of sorts with his old band Phonix. Josh Meyers is in that band, so you should go. It is at the Lions Lair in Denver. They are playing with our friends the Plus Nomination from Switzerland who describe their sound as Sheupfen-Core. I don't know what that means either.

After the tour, we will be taking a little time off until January and then doing another month tour then. I'm not sure where yet, with whom, or anything else about it.

As for new songs, we have a bunch demos recorded on Jason's 4 Track. We will be working on it after the tour and possibly playing some new tunes next year. The stuff sounds pretty cool. Some of it is as catchy as we have been in a while, and some of it is sort of weird in a general sort of way. Who knows? It is way to early in the process to say what the songs really will be like. Regardless, they are the best songs we have ever written. Have you heard that one before?

In other news, you should come to the shows with the Gamits. Later Days.

Hi. So we are leaving for tour in about 2 hours. Last week we found out that we needed a new transmission on our RV. So we got one. Right after we got over the shock of how much a new transmission costs, the new one broke down (3 days later, mind you) So..... we had to cancel the first two out of state dates of our shows. To all the people and promoters in Des Moins and Omaha, we are REALLY sorry and feel like shit about it, however there was nothing we could do. If there is a way we can make any of it up to you in the future, we'll try. Anyway, so now they are putting another new transmission and it should be done in an hour or so. So, the tour should be on its way this evening. Our first drive is to Minneapolis. Anyway, the first two shows, which were Gamits releas shows, were great. The one in Boulder, partiucularly, was rad as we had never played at Tulagi before and now see what a great club it is. The show dates are now updated and for any new updates, we'll have to do it in at the end of the first leg of the tour. For a more updated page, visit the suburban home web site. Come out and see some Colorado Rock Music people!!!!!!

Hello people. What's Happening? Not a whole lot here, except we are leaving for our tour with the Gamits in about 3 weeks or so! It should be great. Some of the tour dates are up right now on the shows page. Both bands will all be living in our RV. That's 7 people, mind you. At this point, I think we are all fairly recovered and ready to head out again. Robbie has been doing alot of rock climbing ad camping and that sort of thing. Andy has been back with his special lady in Toledo and working construction. Jason was unable to get a job so he has been surfing as well as bumpin' in the city they call Long Beach. I have been doing construction as well with Chris from the Gamits and Josh our old roadie. When we all get back together in a couple of weeks, we'll be working on new songs and practicing not screwing all the old ones up. We're not rushing anything. So we have already gotten some emails from people upset that we won't be playing in their town. First of all, only half of the dates have been posted, so you really don't know if we will be playing in your town or not. Second of all, relax dudes. It is not as if this is our last tour ever. We'll be back wherever it is you are pissed off about sometime relatively soon most likely. Well, maybe not if you keep on whining..... I have been eating alot of Raman lately and have become quite the Ramen maestro. There were 10 for a dollar at the grocery store.

In other news, Potential Getaway Driver played a show the other night at the Bluebird in Denver celebrating the birthdays of Virgil of Suburban Home, Scooter of Pinhead Circus and Joe Napalm. Happy Birthday to all of you. It is all downhill from here my friends.

I did a tour journal for the new scheme magazine and should be out really soone here. The next one will have a European tour journal as well.

Oh yeah one other thing, for all of the shows on the tour, this will be your first chance to get our European Releases unless you bought them from Suburban Home. To Recap, there is the Italian Split CD with 5 new songs and the Swiss Split 7" on rad thick ass white vinyl with 2 new songs.

OK, well that's about it for now. We'll be posting the rest of the tour dates as soon as we know them. Later days....
