OLD NEWS OLD NEWS OLD NEWS OLD NEWS 7/19/01 Hi! Were back from our European tour. It was amazing. The people, shows, food, sights, drinks and everything else were incredible. Switzerland was great. All the shows were really fun and it's a beautiful country. Hung out with the Latrines who showed us around and explained what street signs meant. For instance, when it says 100 with an X through it, it means that now you can go OVER 100. Doesn't make much sense to me either, but we got it. Germany was very rushed.... 3 shows in 3 days with long drives, so we did not get to do much there. We had 5 days in Holland and that was great. Some good shows, some bad. Alot of fun as you could imagine. Then to France, which one show, we got the power pulled on us because we were too loud. That was cool. Then on to Spain. 2 shows in 2 days, but..... we hung out in Madrid with friends all night long. If I recall, most of us got back at 10:30 in the morning. Then we went back through France for 1 more show which was pretty cool. Then we went to Italy for 10 days. That was great. There is this one bar on the Mediterranean in Genova called Monumento that is the best bar in the world. We spent many a night at Monumento and it will always remain in my heart as the best bar ever. It was the most beautiful bar I have ever been to and the prices are good and there is this one beer with 10.5% alcohol that was cool. We met so many people there and were able to hang out alot with them (as opposed to some places where we play for a night and leave) and made alot of Friends. It was great. The Stinking Polecats are one of my favorite live bands. I got to sing "Claire" at two of their shows which was "the bomb". They are wonderful dudes and amazing live. Their new stuff is a bit more Descendents-y and going to also be "the bomb". Go to their web site and email them to tour the US! After the tour, we all went our separate ways and did a sort of vacation type thing around alot of places that I wont mention here. Anyway, the tour was a great time and we cant wait to go back. Right now we are all sort of getting our lives back together a little bit. There will not be much going on for the next month or so for us. After that we will get back together and work on new songs and start rehearsing for the Suburban Home Records tour with the Gamits! I just heard their new stuff last night and it rocks really hard, as you could imagine. The web site needs a big facelift and ill try to do that before we leave with the Gamits, but well see if that happens or not! In relatively unrelated news, for those of you who have not been able to find it anywhere, the Potential Getaway Driver CD is available on www.interpunk.com We are also playing a show at the Bluebird in a few weeks for those who are interested. See you later, I gotta get some sleep. |

5/28/01 Well, we are leaving in aobut 2 hours. Our flight leaves tomorrow morning for Paris and we begin our European Tour!!! We land at 11 in the morning and have to get to Basel Switzerland by 7:00. I'm not sure how much international flying any of you have done to really understand this, but believe me, we have gone completely crazy. It looks like everything is going well. So much thanks to Michael in Switzerland, Giovanni in Italy, Markatos in Spain, Niels in the Netherlands, just to name a few people of whom this tour would not be possible at all. You all rule our world. So to those in the US, well be back touring in the states again in September with the Gamits! We are stoked. To all of you in Europe, Hola, Bonjour, Ciao, Gutten Tag.... well be seeing you really soon!! keep the rock alive friends. Bye bye.
5/20/01 Some quick news here.... Most of the European Tour dates are up. Also I added a bunch of content to many sections (links, timeline, releases, etc.... the photos section is still in the works because we need to borrow a scanner) so use your preferred mouse button finger and go!
5/9/01 Yooooooooooooooooooo. What's up everybody?. How have you been? Great we hope. Welcome to Nowhere has been selling great. To read a great in depth review of it, go to (http://emotionalpunk.quantom-fx.com/fairlanes.shtml) So we returned from the US Tour. Almost 8 weeks of rock and roll. We are all still very exhausted from it. I hope we are fully recovered soon. We only have 3 weeks until we leave for our European tour!!! So this tour went pretty good. Sorry if you were confused about tour dates. It was not as easy to update the web site from on the road as we expected. We will have a better system for updating it next time. So Let me give you some highlights of the tour.... well, let me think.... Its pretty tough to sum up 2 months here.... One of the coolest things to happen was we played with the Teen Idols in Chicago, and Screeching Weasel had played earlier that day. After the Idols played, all of the Current SW lineup (minus Ben) got up there with Vapid (who used to be in SW and the Queers)and played old SW songs, Riverdales, Mopes, Squirtgun and Queers (Joe Queer did met her at the rat with them). It was great. Very sloppy, but hearing Vapid and company do their version of MAKE WAY was incredible. Definitely one of my best punk rock moments I have had. We had some great times with Stereotyperider from Phoenix, and the Overdrives from Pennsylvania. Both awesome bands. Definitely check them both out. El Paso, Texas was cool, because we went down into Juarez, Mexico, and partied at Fred's Bar. Fred had 50 cent shots of tequila and dollar Sol's. On the wall of Freds was an American flag and a picture of George Washington and Abe Lincoln. I guess Fred put them there so us gringos would feel at home. I would have rather had pictures of Mexican people like Emiliano Zapata or Pancho Villa or something, but I can't blame Fred.... he DID have a Galaga machine. I guess it didn't work, but he did have galaga, and that's more than I can say for most of you suckers! Anyway, that was great. In Washington DC, we got yelled at for showing up to the venue early, which has never happened. In fact, I don't believe we have ever been early anywhere, and now I'm sure we will make it a point to never be early again. We were about 20 minutes early. Strange behavior....... In Toledo, OH, the posters for the show said THE FAIRLANES (FEATURING ANDY BALDWIN). Let me ask you this - since when is the drummer the featured member of a band? Andy joins up and already he is the featured member..... He sure is Spoiled. D.R.E. (Our RV) held up nicely. We did almost lose the shitter, but hey, nothings perfect. Our trusty roadie Josh was the perfect roadie ever and made the tour about 10 times more fun. He is a great dude and we will miss him coming with us. Well, maybe he'll come again sometime, but I guess he will be starting his own band here in Denver really soon and probably concentrating on that allot. I'll keep you updated on that as I'm sure it will rock really hard. Josh took all of clothes off at a party in Redding, CA and tried to strike up a game of cards to some people. After awhile, one guy said, dude put these back on, and threw Josh his boxer shorts. The guy seemed pissed off that there was a naked man in front of him. Josh said "sorry, dude... I didn't know. Ill put these on" And then he proceeded to put them on his head and walk around. It was the funniest thing I had ever seen up to that point. We also had a great time, as we usually do, playing 3 of the last 4 shows with the Gamits. Awesome band, awesome people, awesome friends. It was really nice to see familiar faces at that point in the tour. We'll be doing some more shows together soon, but I don't want to say too much........ (By the way, if you want to hear more about all of this, I am doing a tour journal of sorts for the new scheme (www.thenewscheme.com) and it will be out in July, I believe.) Anyway, we had a good time and thank you everybody so much who came out and hung out and offered your hospitality. Our European Tour is basically planned! I am waiting to hear back from a couple of people on exact show dates, but I'll hear back from them soon. The tour looks great. I am so excited to see some of these places. Definitely I want to say thanks 1,000,000 times to Michael from Floppy Cow, Giovanni from Wynona Records and Kevin From Stardumb for helping us out so much. Our import releases on Wynona and Floppy Cow will be readily available when we get back. I have not heard the Latrines songs yet, but I have heard the Stinking Polecats and, man, do they rock. It is great rock and roll. We are very excited to be a part of both releases. Also, the last show of the tour is a beach festival on the coast of Italy on the Mediterranean with the Polecats and the Manges. The Manges, if you have not heard of them, wrote "I will always do" which is the best song on the new Screeching Weasel album. Their other songs are just as cool, but I just thought I would mention that of 20 weasel songs, the manges wrote the best one. That's more than I can say about you suckers.... unless you have a WORKING galaga machine..... OK, well update this more and more before we leave. Until next time..........
3/29/01 Yo. We are in Long Beach right now. Have not seen Snoop Dogg yet, but we will be here a few more days.... The tour has been going pretty well. Some great shows, some not so great shows. We have been getting great feedback on Welcome to Nowhere which is nice. So, last night we played in Hollywood, and after we played, we went to the bowling alley where the Big Lebowski was filmed. It was amazing. I ordered 3 caucasians, and the woman knew that they were White Russians. Amazing. We'll post some pictures, most likely after the tour is done. Anyway, the RV is holding up great and we are having alot of fun. I guess the Wynona Records Italian Split CD with the Stinking Polecats will be out April 2. The Floppy Cow Records Swiss 7" with The Latrines will be out in late April, I believe. Anyway, we are still getting all the tour dates together, so if you see we are playing and it it not confirmed, check out the suburban home records tour dates page and/or call the venue. It is not very convenient to update this page on the road. So thanks to all of you who have come out to the shows and are planning on coming to see us in the future!
3/14/01 Hi there. Thanks to everyone who came to our CD release show on the 9th. It was a lot of fun. Since then we have been busy. We are leaving here for our first full-time US tour in about an hour or so. We will try to keep you as updated as we can on the road but it will be a bit tough. Well see you in May when we get back as we will play a few Colorado Shows. Please come out to see us and check out our CD. Also, Scott wrote a column for the issue of The New Scheme this month. Also, we will keep updating you on Welcome to Nowhere, Our upcoming Italian split CD with the Stinking Polecats and our upcoming Swiss Split 7" with the Latrines. Well see you all later!
3/4/01 Hi Everybody.... Once again there is a ton going on with us..... I am picking up Jason from the Airport at 9:00PM tonite (American Airlines). and so it begins........ To start things off, we are under a week away from our release show. (March 9, Ogden Theater, Denver, CO). We are very excited about that, let me tell you.. It should be a rad show. Also playing are the Gamits, Qualm and Kendrix. Show up at 7:00 PM. So the first of the US Tours starts in 10 days (the SHOW DATES have been posted as well) !!! Again, the first 2 months we will tour the US, the next month, we will tour Europe. After that, back to the states and Canada. After that, I have no idea at this point. It is very exciting, none the less...... Speaking of touring, last Friday was all of our last days at work. It is Sunday right now, and I am not bummed about tomorrow being Monday. Right now, that NOFX song thank god it's Monday off their newest album really strikes a chord with me......... And Speaking of Touring, we just got our new Van last Thursday!!! Or should I say, we got out new RV!!! SRV1. It is the coolest thing since sliced bread. It is a 27 foot 1992 Tioga. An absolutely beautiful piece of work. It has everything.... two tables, a booth that folds into a bed, a double bed above the drivers area, a master bedroom in the back, a refrigerator, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, toilet, shower and an AM/FM "cassette" player. It is a bittersweet feeling because SV1 (Our relatively loyal van since 1995) will now be retired.... Long live SV1. Also, we got a roadie to come on tour with us which is also great. His name is Josh. He is from Ohio and knew Andy out there. He is a very nice dude and we like him a whole lot. He is the second coolest thing since sliced bread. I like comparing shit to things that really should not be compared, like Josh, sliced bread and our RV. And Speaking of a roadie, we will have a shitload of new merchandise at the show..... New T Shirts, Girlie Shirts, This-Other-Kind-Of Cool Girl Shirts, Beanies, Hooded Sweatshirts, Zip-Up Sweatshirts, Work Shirts, Work Jackets, Stickers and Pins. I have probably forgotten some stuff. Josh will help you will all your merchandise needs. Alright, we hope to see you all at the show on the 9th!!!!! Come rock out fellow rockers.
Yo peeps. So we have had ALOT going on lately... First of all, we had an overwhelming response to the "contest" thing to open our release show on March 9 at the Ogden in Denver. We are quite flattered to have so many people show interest to play with us. Thank you all very much, regardless of whether you win or not. As far as I am concerned, you are all winners. (sob sob....) On another note, we just got out of the recording studio. Everything sounds really great. You should pay close attention to Andy's drumming on good-bye. It is pretty "hype" (Hype is a slang word that means "good" in case you did not follow that last sentence). As we mentioned before the songs were recorded for a split 7" on Wynona Records out of Italy. There are 5 new songs.... Beautiful Ride and One in a Million (from the Welcome to nowhere sessions that we did not have lyrics finished up for.... I think they both came out rad) We re-recorded Friday Night and Goodbye (from our first album.... they are allot better now I think) and 2 Miles From Nowhere, which was a song by an awesome band called My Pal Trigger who are no longer. We toured a little bit with them a few years back and are excited to display one of their coolest songs. Also on the release will be Toursong, which will be on Welcome to Nowhere. This will be a split record with a band from Italy called the Stinking Polecats. So Jason and I were in Vegas this past weekend for that "punk rock bowling tournament" that you may have heard about. It was all right. We did not actually bowl, but gambled and lost. Well, I lost, and Jason won, but I think I lost enough that I can just pretend that Jason lost some too. I doubt he cares if he is in the losers bracket. He is not doing this update anyway, so in all actuality, he does not have a say. Anyway, it was ok. I believe the Suburban Home team did pretty good. To be perfectly honest, I did not watch much bowling. It was fairly uneventful I guess. I saw Zach who used to be in rage against the machine in a store and he seemed to be a very cool guy. Anyway, the new stuff will be mastered this week. Oh yeah, we have all now all quit our jobs!!!! 8 days left of work. That is pretty crazy. The US and Europe Tour booking is going fairly smoothly. Robbie has been doing most of the tour booking for the US tour. We are still waiting on a bunch of things for it. We will be posting the dates on the site soon...... Well, that's about it for now kids. Well keep you updated soon!
.
Hello again Everybody.... Email Newsletter #2 was sent out a couple of days ago.... If you are not on the list, sign up! You can read the email newsletters HERE. We have been getting things all wrapped up with the US/Europe tours, getting transportation of some sort, practicing, working out stuff for the release show, etc. etc. etc. It has been quite hectic to say the least. I hope you all can make it to the release show.
Thanks
to everybody who came out to the show last night. We had a great time!
We played 11 songs and 7 of them were new from Welcome to Nowhere. Again,
that will be released on March 9 on Suburban Home Records. |
| Alright,
We mixed Welcome to Nowhere this past weekend. It sounds awesome. We are
all very excited about it. Every tune came out great. As far as show news,
we just got asked to play on January 2nd at the Bluebird Theater in Denver.
The line-up is: The Fairlanes, Qualm, Dropskots, Fall Short and Departure.
It was a last minute show and since Jason will be in Denver then, we decided
to play it. It should be fun. We hope you can make it. You should definitely
come see it because IT WILL BE THE LAST SHOW WE PLAY UNTIL OUR CD RELEASE
SHOW IN MARCH!!!!!!!! In other show news, the show last Friday was great. The new venue, the Cat is cool. We had a few technical problems (like not hearing any vocals which makes it tough to sing in tune, and new strings that kept falling out of tune), but played a pretty good show regardless and had a great time. Thanks to everybody who came out and rocked out. As you may have noticed, we had new merch. New shirts and sweatshirts. We will be selling those again at the Bluebird as well as Potential Getaway Driver CDs. In other news, we will be spending new years in Fresco CO. We all rented out some mountain house type place that has a hot tub, 3 bedrooms and a bunch of more stuff. I think about 15-20 people will be going up including all of the Fairlanes and our girlfriends, virgil of suburban home some of the Gamits and others friends. It should be fairly epic. We will be there for 3 days. Alright. Enough for now...... |
| So,
life has slowed down quite a bit in Fairlanes land since we recorded. We
have basically been relaxing since then and concentrating on the artwork
for welcome to nowhere, planning shows, getting new merchandise ideas and
not a whole lot more. We will be mixing in December and we will most likely
play a show in Denver. We got asked to be on a benefit for silent records (www.silentrecords.org). We will put a new song on it. Other bands confirmed are Death by Stereo, Good Riddance, The Ataris, Bigwig, LongFellow, New Found glory, Face to Face, Millincollin and more. Uprising! magazine out of Toledo, Ohio has asked us if they could do a feature on us in their next issue (which we are very happy about) with an interview and in-depth review of the new album. This will hit the shelves a month or so before the album is released, so be sure to check it out and get somebody's opinion of the album before you buy it. As far as the web site is concerned, I will try to get some photos of Andy up here later this week so you can see his lovely mug (face) and as well as get him to do a bio and update everything else on the site. It needs an overhaul, but that will happen soon enough. In other news, you need to read a book by Ronin Ro called "have gun, will travel". It is about the rise and fall of death row records. I loaned it to Virgil of Suburban Home Records and he finished it and reccomended it in the Suburban Home Records update. Go read it right now. Also, I saw a great Spanish film called "Butterfly" which was amazing. Alright, enough of this nonsense already....... |
| Well boys and girls... we have completed recording our album I am quite happy to say. It was a long process, but very fun and we are all very happy with the results. We got 14 songs completed and 3 that we did the music to. (We were not totally satisfied with the lyrics, so we will complete them sometime for something) In between recording, we ate alot of steak escape, chipolte, and Carl's jr. We watched a Hard Days Night many times (rad movie) as well as Friday, and Dumb and Dumber. We listened to a bootleg of smile by the Beach Boys, lots of Beatles, Matthew Sweet, Van Halen II and Juliana Hatfield. We drank our fair share of beer, soda, gin and juice. Matt Van Leuven and I mixed fierce lime Gatorade and fierce berry Gatorade to create fierce lerry Gatorade (pronounced Larry). We have hardly had any time to see anybody including our girlfriends outside of the band and Leuven. So, basically, we stayed up late every night working very hard and having fun all in the name of rock and roll. Anyway, the record will not be mixed until December. We may put an MP3 up on the site in the meantime. It is a bit different from our stuff in the past, but it still sounds like the Fairlanes. I guess it is alot more refined. Oh well. We have alot of practicing to do before Saturday. (Andy's big debut). In non Fairlanes. news, the Potential Getaway Driver album (Scott's side band) is now out on pop riot records. It looks and sounds great. I'm not sure where you can get them yet other than at our shows. Alright....... |
| Yo.... So we are in the studio right now and let me tell you, things sound awesome. Matt Van Leuven, who is recording us and CO producing it is doing an incredible job. The sound is by far better than anything we have recorded there before. We have all of the rhythm sections done at this point (rhythm guitars, bass, drums) There are a total of 17 songs we are doing. That is 16 Fairlanes. tunes and one cover song (All my lovin, by the beatles) I'm not sure if we will ever release the cover song, but it won't go on the record. Anyway, I hope to see you all at our show. Our first with Andy. It should be pretty damn rockin. Ill keep you posted more on the recording. |
| Hello again friends. Sorry for the lack of updates lately, but everything has been really crazy lately. Anyway, the big news right now is that we have a new member named Andy Baldwin. As you may or may not know, Jeff our old bassist and OG Fairlane quit a little while ago because the Fairlanes. was taking up too much time and he wanted to concentrate on his business, mach 8. The split was totally friendly. There is a link to his site on the links page if you wish to keep up with Jeff and all of his endeavors in the future.... Anyway, Andy has been a Fairlanes. fan for a while and is a really nice guy. He fits in just great with the different personalities in the band and we are very excited about the new addition. We are playing a show at the Ogden Theater with the new line up on October 21st with Pinhead Circus and the Gamits. You should come and see us and meet Andy. We have not been plying too many shows lately as we have been concentrating on the new album. We begin recording it this upcoming Saturday. (Oct. 7). We will be in the studio for two weeks. It will then be mixed in December. We are doing 16 songs. Of those there will be roughly 12 or so on the album and something cool will happen with the other songs. Matt Van Leuven will be producing it with us. We are very excited. We are all happy with the songs and have never put so much time and energy into anything in our lives. The writing of this album has, for me at least, been extremely mentally and physically draining. Recording it, I'm sure, will be just as intense, however, well worth it. Well, well update you regarding the recording and I hope to see you all at the Ogden on October 21st! |
| Yo. Whats shakin? I just wanted to say that our trip to LA was awesome. Our rehearsals were rad. At this point we have 13 new songs. Most of them will definitely be on the next record. Some of which may not, but they will be released somewhere. Some of the tentative titles (due to a lack of lyrics) at this point are "chunka-chunka song", "evil song", "Scott's tour song", "robs newer new song", and "Jason's other newer song that he sent on the tape". These are pretty lame tentative titles, huh? Oh well, last time I checked (and things could possibly be different now), you were not the one assigning tentative titles to these songs. Anyway, we arrived in LA on Saturday. morning and we went to the beach which was radical. Jeff and I did not get sun burned amazingly (actually when we were leaving to come home Jeff got really red for like 45 minutes, but I think that was more hang-over related than sun-burned related) We went out on Saturday. night and saw our friends Matt and Brandy who used to live in Colorado. On Sunday we practiced all day and went out at night. On Monday we practiced all day and went to Vegas that night. Vegas was great. Jason got a 1/2 pound hot dog at 3:30 in the morning that somehow took 45 minutes to prepare. We went dancing at this lame "club". We opted to go to the Holiday Inn dance club instead of the Luxor or one of those "hip" places. The only people dancing were the Fairlanes. with Matt and Brandy, these two girls who did that booty shake dance really-really well and these Germans. Quite a scene if you ask me. Drinks were one dollar. Actually we did have one round of drinks at the Belagio and for 5 shots of whisky, 2 white Russians and a beer it was 55 dollars. Anyhoo, the Holiday Inn is located next to Belagio on the strip and has a fake roller coaster on the roof and a weird looking giant clown head. It was $65 a night. That is 10 dollars more than our round of drinks at the Belagio. That was also split 7 ways so it was like $9.29 (Rounded up) per person. We only slept there for a few hours so it was great. I somehow got the lamest end of the whole deal and had to use two Holiday Inn towels as my blanket. Also, the air conditioner thing was blowing right on me. Everybody else looked so nice and comfortable. Apparently they were really hot and sweaty and didn't even use their blankets.... bastards. Anyway, what the hell am I talking about? Is this really Fairlanes. news? No. Is this even news worthy for anything at all? No. OK Ill stop now, thank you. |
| Hello again friends. We wanted to give you a quick update as to what's shakin over here. First of all, check out the bio page. Click on each person's name to see what we each created to give a little more info about us. These pages will be updated in the future regularly as well. Practices have been going great for the new record. Personal favorite new song - standing on the shoulders of an average sized person. The title might actually change a bit but so what? It is my new favorite Fairlanes. song along with Welcome to Nowhere which you can hear at.... oh wait, you cant hear that one yet either because it has not yet been released! Is this enough hype for 1 day or what? So anyway, the three of us Colorado folks are planning on going to sunny California for the July 4th weekend to visit Jason and rehearse the new materiel like crazy as well as work out brand new stuff. It should be fun. Jeff and I will inevitably get sunburned. Feedback on the web site has been great. Thanks to everybody for writing. Until next time, rock really, really hard for us. |
| Hi there again from Fairlanes. land! It has been much too long. We have been very busy lately with setting up our web site, working on the next album and figuring out touring plans. Needless to say, we have been very busy. Work on the album is moving along very strongly. At this point we have roughly 10 songs VERY near completion and about 6 or 7 more that are "getting there" (In other words they need structure, a bridge a solo, lyrics etc.). Thus far the lyrics are basically about things that go on in the life of a mid 20 year old that most everybody can relate to. Basically it is about life. Everything is subject to change. The three of us Colorado folks were overjoyed when Jason came to us with 3 new songs which are awesome. In my opinion, these are all the strongest stuff we have ever done. I know I always say that, but who cares? I think it's true! We are planning on recording it later on in the year. We will probably get about 5-8 more songs and then pick our favorites and which would belong on the album with the others best. I'm not sure what will happen to the others but Ill let you know when something does. We are all really stoked to release an album that is a complete album and not just a collection of good tunes. In other news, we played a show last weekend in Boulder in between album rehearsals. It sold out pretty quickly and we had a blast partying. After the show, Jason entertained himself by covertly slipping pieces of hotdog into Jeff's beer at our friend's party. Everybody, except Jeff, thought it was a swell thing to do. Thanks for coming everybody and this will be updated again soon!!! |
| For starters, here is the new Fairlanes. homepage. There will me alot added soon so keep checking back. As far as the band is concerned, we just recorded 3 new songs. One of which will be on an Asian Man compilation and the other two we have not decided yet. The songs are called "This Amp Goes to 11" (That's the one going on the comp), "Welcome to Nowhere" and "Burn It Down". They continue in the direction that Bite Your Tongue was and I think they are some of the best songs we have written. |
